Varma Rambaran making Carbon Nanospheres

I make #Nanoparticles :) Do you?

IGCEB Update 1: Dr Varma Rambaran is a Trinbagonian lecturer in the Biomedical Engineering Progamme at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). He recently won an IGCEB SMART Fellowship for his research on alternative treatments for diabetes.  Dr Rambaran was also a finalist in the NIHERST’s Prime Minister’s Awards for Scientific Ingenuity 2015. “I made my first nanoparticles!” he proudly e-mailed to the NIHERST team today as he shared photos of his first week in the laboratories at JNCASR (Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research) in Bangalore.
NIHERST is the national focal point for the ICGEB – International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology

IGCEB Update 2: Dr. Rambaran, has successfully created both Carbon Sphere (round) and Mesoporous silicates (Kidney shaped) which will be used as vehicles for delivery of the dugs in-vivo. Characterization methods that he did so far include Field emission Transmission Electron Microscopy (FESM) and Transmission electron Microscopy (TEM). Presently they are troubleshooting the loading of the drugs on the carriers (CSP and MCM-41) and then they will go with the actual drugs that he made.

Once successful, this drug will be used to treat Diabetes. #scienceforall #Imakenanoparticles #health #makingtheworldbetter
