Fyzabad was the country’s science hot spot during the first week of February. Over 5000 residents were fired up learning about science and technology through the hands-on, innovative ways NIHERST created using its signature recipe for informal science education.

Adding to the richness of the visitor experience were 18 partner agencies showcasing the science in their own operations. Among them were: BG Trinidad and Tobago Ltd., Environmental Management Authority, Fyzabad Health Centre, Petrotrin Petting Zoo by Serpentarium, Professional Airline Training Solution (PRO-Ats), The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT), and iGovTT.

NIHERST thanks the principal and staff of Fyzabad Secondary School and other community leaders for their role in the planning and staging of Fyzabad Community Science Week, which was a tremendous success. Started in 2003, this pioneering initiative, designed to increase the scientific awareness and literacy of all citizens, has benefitted over 104,000 children and adults from 17 communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
