2012 Caribbean Youth Science Forum

Prof Stephon Alexander, Trinidad-born theoretical physicist based at Dartmouth College in the United States, was one of the top scientists who addressed participants at NIHERST's Caribbean Youth Science Forum (CYSF) 2012 taking place this week.

Prof Alexander gave a riveting presentation entitled: The Cosmic Harmony: Where Does Matter Come From? In the lecture he explored how Einstein's conception of the space-time fabric as a manifestation of the gravitational field explains the expanding universe and how the structures in the universe such as galaxies, stars and planets arise from the expanding universe. He also demonstrated the connection between the formation of structure and music.

Some of these ideas and more were captured in Prof Alexander's interview on IETV's One on One with Vernon O'Reilly Ramesar on Tuesday 7th. It's truly a must-see for anyone interested in the latest thinking and developments in these fields, including the recent breakthroughs with the Higgs Boson.
