Bringing together regional youth for an intensive week of teamwork, social interactions, cultural exchanges and interfaces with scientists, CYSF has successfully managed to attract the attention and participation of science students from year to year. The 2008 event will be the seventh edition of the forum and it is scheduled to take place from August 3rd to 10th 2008. The organisers expect a good turnout from local schools and regional participants.

As in previous years, the forum will involve the collaborative support of The University of Trinidad and Tobago, with several of the week’s activities carded to take place at the O‘Meara campus. Several faculty members are also carded to give lecturers and meet with participants. Similar assistance will also come from The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus.

Participants are expected to debate topics from food security to forensics and lifestyle choices to potable water sources. They will broaden their knowledge of careers in science through field trips to various science institutions and one-on-one discussions with science professionals.

In between these activities, participants will also take up opportunities to network and enjoy time with their regional peers through sports events and a cultural concert, among other planned social activities. It is no wonder that the CYSF is considered ‘the place to be’ among this group of youngsters!

It is equally understandable why NIHERST is happy to continue hosting this forum each year for the students’ benefit and for the successful fostering of regional partnerships among our future science professionals. We look forward to meeting and greeting participants at CYSF 2008.
